I’ve recently had a great experience building a friends simple business site using Hugo all-in on Cloudflare, who recently (to me) launched their own static site build and hosting solution. I thought it worth checking out how hard it would be to move across from Gitlab Pages which has been dependable for a few years and wow(!) - it was as trivial as pointing Cloudflare Pages at the Git Repository and flicking over the DNS.
There’s still some rough edges to Cloudflare pages - random error messages being seen when wiring up Gitlab and a confusing handoff between the regular Cloudflare dashboard and Pages, but these were minor inconveniences compared to simplification they enable. Overall I’m very impressed with how Cloudflare keep releasing new capabilities, something I imagine will take time to bed in and adapt with customers. While getting the technology in place is one thing, they also provide sane defaults and the kind of flexibility you need without overwhelming people with dozens of micro-decisions. For anyone working in the Cloudflare customer journey team I salute you! :)
